Protecting Nigeria’s Digital Tax Sovereignty: CAfPRA at the Forefront

In collaboration with PROJECT SPRINT, co-sponsored and organized the National Youth Dialogue on Tax Reforms—a high-level policy engagement that placed young Nigerians at the center of the national conversation on tax justice and sovereignty.

The dialogue, held in Abuja, brought together youth groups from across the country, filling the room and drawing significant attention from policymakers. The scale of participation was so remarkable that several ranking members of the House of Representatives attended, further affirming the relevance of youth voices in shaping Nigeria’s fiscal future.

Dr. Segun Adebayo’s Keynote Address

Delivering the Keynote Speech, CAfPRA’s own Dr. Segun Adebayo spoke on the theme: Protecting Nigeria’s Digital Tax Sovereignty. He outlined the urgent need for Nigeria to safeguard its digital economy from external dominance, ensuring that revenues generated within the country remain under Nigeria’s control.

Dr. Adebayo stressed that the digital economy is not just a financial space but a strategic sovereignty issue, warning that without proactive reforms, foreign digital platforms could erode Nigeria’s economic independence. He also emphasized the necessity of crafting youth-sensitive tax policies, given the central role young innovators and entrepreneurs play in Nigeria’s digital landscape.

Youth at the Center of Policy Redirection

For CAfPRA, this dialogue underscored the power of youth in driving policy redirection. By mobilizing young leaders from all over the nation, the event amplified calls for:

  • Fair and equitable tax reforms that do not stifle innovation.
  • A sovereign approach to digital taxation, free from undue external influence.
  • Inclusive policymaking that reflects the aspirations of Nigeria’s next generation.

Moving Forward

The National Youth Dialogue on Tax Reforms marked a defining moment in bridging the gap between Nigeria’s youth and its policymakers. CAfPRA is proud to have co-sponsored this initiative, and we remain committed to advancing policy advocacy that defends sovereignty, accountability, and fairness in Nigeria’s tax system.

As the conversation on tax reforms continues, CAfPRA will ensure that youth voices remain central and that Nigeria charts a path toward a digital economy governed by policies that protect the nation’s future.
