Africa Must Embrace Its Own Curriculumfor a Brighter Future – Dr. Adebayo

Dr. Segun Adebayo, the Executive Director of the Center for African Policy Research and Advisory (CAfPRA), has called for the urgent development of an African-centered education system to secure the continent’s future.

Speaking during a media briefing, Dr. Adebayo argued that Africa’s current reliance on Western curricula serves foreign interests rather than fostering local development. “Our education system should
empower Africans, not train minds to leave the continent,”
he said, highlighting how the adoption of
Western educational models have fueled brain drain and left Africa struggling with critical skill gaps.

Dr. Adebayo also raised alarms about the unchecked use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and agrochemicals. He warned that without proper regulation, these technologies could threaten human
health and the environment, citing adverse outcomes observed in other countries.

Advocating for homegrown solutions, he emphasized the need for Africa to strengthen its own research capacities and to integrate indigenous knowledge into policymaking. He urged African governments and citizens to critically evaluate Western interventions and to prioritize sovereignty and self-reliance in all sectors. CAfPRA, under Dr. Adebayo’s leadership, is committed to providing research-driven policy recommendations that safeguard national interests, promote sustainable growth, and ensure Africa’s economic and political independence for generations to come.
