CAfPRA Leads Policy Dialogue on Agroecology and Food Security in Nigeria

CAfPRA participated in the National Stakeholders Conference on Advancing Agroecology Principles and Practice for Food Sovereignty in Nigeria, held in Abuja. The conference brought together farmers, policymakers, researchers, and civil society actors who are working to build a stronger and more sustainable food system for Nigeria.

Nigeria faces growing challenges with food insecurity, climate stress, and the push of external interests promoting industrialized farming models. This conference reaffirmed that agroecology is not only a farming practice but also a movement for sovereignty, sustainability, and justice. It places control of food systems back in the hands of communities rather than external corporations.

CAfPRA’s Role Going Forward

By participating in this dialogue, CAfPRA strengthened its position as a key voice in policy advocacy for sustainable agriculture. We will continue to work with partners across the agroecology and food sovereignty space to ensure that Nigeria’s agricultural transformation is farmer-led, environmentally sound, and people-first.
